FAQ (Tucson MUA - JMarie Makeup)

Q. Where are you located? Do you travel?
A. I am located in Southern Arizona in the beautiful city of Tucson. Most of my work is done here, and honestly it's what's easiest for me. However, it's possible that I'd be up to travel if the circumstances and timing were right. Let's chat if you're interested!

Q. How much notice should I give to book a makeup appointment?
A. Please try to give as much notice as possible to ensure that your date is available (at least 2 weeks in advance). At this time, I am only available on weekends and select weekdays per month. For more specific details, please contact me.

Q. What am I paying for when I hire a freelance MUA (makeup artist)?
A. With all freelance makeup artists, you are paying more than you would going to salons or stores to get your makeup done. Freelance traveling artists have built their kits themselves, travel to different locations, and handle their own setup and cleanup for every job (including cleaning their kits at home), all while also marketing their businesses, experience and continued education, and providing for themselves and their families. You also receiving uninterrupted, more personalized service from a freelance artist than you would from a brand rep or consultant at a store.

Independent freelance MUAs truly appreciate your business and referrals more than you know. Our customers are the best!

Q. What brands do you use?
A. I have several different brands in my kit that range from drugstore to highend to professional stage brands, and my choices are dependent on experience with these products. I find that it works best for me to work with products that I know will work regardless of the price. Some of the brands in my kit include, but are not limited to: Urban Decay, MAC, RCMA, NYX, Benefit, Anastasia, Maybelline, Morphe, Smashbox, Ben Nye, and Clinique.

Q. What kind of services do you offer?
A. Anything and everything! As far as makeup is concerned at least…I do not and cannot do hair, but I do know some awesome hairstylists!

For more info, please contact me for pricing.

Q. How long does it take to do makeup?
A. For general makeup (not lessons), it takes about an hour to complete and fine-tune a face depending on the desired look. Lessons and trial makeup take anywhere from 90 minutes – 2 hours, again depending on the desired look. Additionally, it takes roughly 10 minutes to set up and 10 minutes to cleanup.

Q. What do clients/customers need to provide for an appointment?
A. It is helpful to have a clean spot in a well-lit room, preferably with natural lighting. I do have a ring light, but natural lighting is always a fabulous addition. Also, a table or some other flat surface with the top cleared off will allow me to spread out my supplies a bit. On a related note, pets and children are welcome as long as they don’t interfere (much) with the makeup process. I’m especially a fan of furbabies!

I provide a comfortable chair for people of all shapes and sizes (a must for a plus sized lady like myself), a ring light, and all the skincare and makeup we’ll need.

Q. What do clients/customers need to do to prepare themselves for an appointment?
A. While I’ll provide skincare to get your skin ready for the makeup application, it’s also a good idea to prep your skin the night before (at least). Clean exfoliated skin is always great, but the night before our appointment it’s even more important. To prep, it’s recommended that you use a mud mask (or whatever your favorite mask is) and exfoliate to create a clean, smooth canvas. I also suggest a gentle lip exfoliator and a moisturizing lip balm. If you get your brows and/or lashes done, schedule those appointments before your makeup appointment.

If you really love your own skincare, you're welcome to use it! Just be sure to do your skincare routine directly before our appointment for the best results.

A blog post will be coming up soon with more info and product suggestions.

Q. Do I have to pay a deposit and how much is it?
A. A nonrefundable deposit is required to ensure that I do my job, and that you allow me to. This payment will be billed at the time of booking and you will have 1 business day to complete the payment (your appointment is not secured until this payment is cleared). In turn, your appointment will be booked and guaranteed. The deposit amount is 20% of your total quote and will be deducted from your total.

Q. What methods of payment do you accept?
A. Venmo, ApplePay, Zelle, Paypal, and cash is always a nice option.

Q. Should we tip freelance artists?
A. Much like tipping your hairstylist or nail tech, tips are greatly appreciated.
