Red has been my staple lip color for years now (like decades), and I am still obsessed. It's classic, bold, and just makes me feel like me. I have some musts when it comes to bold red lips though. I need pigmentation, longwear, and a non-drying formula. This post features some of the best red lipsticks that fit those needs, aka my own personal favorites in no particular order (and a lot of them are from black owned brands - always a plus for me). Swatches are below as well!
Do you have any favorite red lipsticks? Let me know in the comments! I could never have too many.

Fenty Stunna Lip Paint - Uncensored (black owned)
Described as a lightweight, longwear liquid lipstick with a soft matte finish, and it's all true. The red is BOLD, dries down, and the feels so light that it's easy to forget I even have it on. I also really love the applicator for this one. The unique shape is firm and structured in a way that allows for precision application, even without a lipliner. A+ for this packaging too!
Juvia's Place The Reds Cherry Velvet Lipstick - So Red (black owned)
Nearly everything from Juvia's Place is a win. Their lipsticks are described as a "hydrating Velvety Matte Lipstick provides a highly pigmented creamy and smooth long wear. A soft matte formula infused with hyaluronic acid." I personally prefer matte lipsticks, but some can definitely be drying. This one feels creamy on the lips, but with the benefit of the longer wear that most matte lipsticks have.
I told you...I love Juvia's Place. When they came out with lipstick I needed to try a little of all of the new products and this quickly became a favorite. It wears well, but I think the regular lipstick (above) feels lighter. This one is a favorite solely for the color. It's just the most gorgeous, true bright red. This one tends to take a bit longer to dry on me, but it's not a big deal.
Not black owned, but Maybelline made the cut because of the affordability. The Ink Crayons are such a good formula. SUPER lightweight, incredibly longwearing, and just a very nice classic red. I LOVE THESE. And at about $10, it's the cheapest of my picks.
UOMA Beauty Bad Ass Icon Matte Lipstick - Diana (black owned)
This brand was a new one for me, and I haven't disliked anything I've tried. Their lipsticks are wonderful and they have quite a few shades if you're looking for something other than red. Very pigmented, feels similar to Juvia's Place, but possibly more moisturizing. This formula is infused with wild mango butter, which restores dry damaged lips. Also, I love this color...Diana is a brick red, different from most reds that I own.
